About Us

Woodwards Printers is a family run business which provides a high quality service and products at very competitive rates. The business has been at its current location since 1878.

In 1878 the Cheadle Herald was printed, this was followed by a printing business being run by the late Joseph Machin. This saw letterpress printing taking place, with the production time comsuming but producing top quality products of the time.

Harry Hurst then took over and worked there for 40 years providing a high quality service again through the means of letterpress printing. He continued until his reitrement in 1988. He then sold the business to Eric Woodward.

Eric Woodward started in the printing trade working as an apprentice at the late Jerome Alcock Printers, after serving his apprenticeship he moved to the Cheadle and Tean Times where he worked as Linotype operator, setting the newspaper ready for production. He then moved to the Sentinel as a Linotype Operator. Eric then became the print manager at James Brock Printers in Fenton where he remained until it closed down. Eric then moved into the High Street, Cheadle taking over the running of the business from Harry Hurst. He remained here for 27 years until his retirement at the end of 2008.

Sean Woodward entered the family business upon leaving school. He studied printing and graphic design at Leek College. The business introduced off set litho machinery to the business to compliment the letterpress side of the business. He left the business in 1994 to join the police service, he did help out when required until in October 2008 he took over the running the business when Eric retired. Since then the business has seen the introduction of digital machinery and new graphic design software to see the business upto date and have the ability to produce any customer requirements.
